Recompilation, decompilation or port?
Understand what these approaches mean for playing on PC.

Static recompilation
Translates program code for a new platform before execution. Zelda 64: Recompiled is one example. This does not remove the need for original game data.
Decompilation
Reconstructs a representation of the code from the original program. This work can form the basis of ports such as Ship of Harkinian.
Native port
An adaptation that runs on the target platform. These categories overlap: a port can be built from decompilation or recompilation. Our filter highlights the main approach.
What to check
Compatibility, required files, installation instructions and project support matter more than the technique. Always use the official documentation linked on each page.
